Littlehampton v Hove Volunteers

29th January 2015

With last weeks game  having to be postponed due to pitch conditions   Littlehampton were eager to get back into  action  and this week  hosted Hove  Volunteers….   or were due too but Hove  cancelled at the eleventh hour, so the hunt for a friendly was started.

Due to the cancellation the Result went down as  a 40-0 win in the league  and with 2nd placed Barns Green  losing to league leaders Pulborough   Littlehampton moved back upto  2nd place.

The hunt for a friendly had come up with an opponent…. oddly though  it was Hove Outcasts that took up the challenge  and made arrangements to travel over. on arrival they found a soft pitch waiting for them  but   weather conditions perfect for rugby.

The game kicked off   with Littlehampton playing into the bright low sun and both teams soon had early chances  but both defences holding  firm. the rest of the first half was end to end  stuff   both sides matching the other with scores  but Hove having the slight advantage at the break   17-19 Littlehampton first half points  coming from a try for  Scott Elliott, 2 for Craig Boddington and  a conversion from Craig Walters.

2nd HALF

The second  half started with Littlehampton going for the win and soon find themselves  in striking distance of the Hove try line  which allows Craig Boddington to  complete his Hatrick of tries Walters adding the conversion 24-19.

From the restart the game then settles back to how it was in first half with both teams  cancelling eachother out  in defence and attack but  Sam Foxon soon finds a gap after picking up a loose ball  and heading for the line.  With 3 Hove players very much on his back   he  holds on and scores to extend  the hosts lead to 29-19.

Hove come back fighting  and  set about  closing the gap, aided in part by  a couple of injuries that disrupts the hosts defences  allowing the visitors to sread the ball out wide and cross in the corner to   bring the  the scores close at 29-24 assuring the final 5 minutes would be a tight  affair…. But Littlehampton hold on to record an odd double  of wins over  the same club in 1 day.

Next week sees Littlehampton  travel to local rivals Worthing
