Littlehampton 0 – 29 Sussex Police

17th September 2017

Littlehampton 0  Sussex Police 29

This was Littlehampton’s first home, league game,  with a team which had selected to drop down a division due to the extra manning duties required at Brighton and Hove Albinos home games.
They knew it would be one of the difficult games this season.

The game started with neither team making much ground, then the Police started to edge more into Littlehampton’s half, with the home team defending well, the only way in was to use the full width of the pitch, scoring in the corner but not converted.

The match became very stagnant with both teams failing to find a way through, but with the Police slightly having the edge managed to score just before half time 0-10.

Two of Littlehampton’s backs had to retire due to injuries, Matt Atkinson and Dan Bleaky. The only replacements where forwards however with some adjustments and players out of position the second half became difficult.

Very soon the away team was awarded a penalty after hands in the ruck, close to Littlehampton’s goal line a tap penalty was taken and the police scored, not converted. Another 20 mins went by before the Police scored through the forwards driving over for a try and their kicker finding the posts.
The home team was still trying to make a game of it still holding their heads high making the Police work for every point. With steady play, and a very experienced fly half making breaking runs for the police they scored and converted. The game was played in a good spirit. Next week away to Burgess Hill 3pm K o.
